After losing the assembly poll on Saturday, the Congress replaced Kamal Nath as the head of its MP unit. Nath will be succeeded as PCC chief by Jitu Patwari. “Hon’ble Congress president has appointed Shri Jitu Patwari as the President of Madhya Pradesh Congress Committee, with immediate effect. The party appreciates the contributions of outgoing PCC president, Shri Kamal Nath,” mentioned Congress general secretary KC Venugopal in a statement.

Hemant Katare has been designated as the deputy leader of the Congress in the MP assembly, with Umag Singhar. Days after the party was soundly defeated in the state’s just finished assembly elections, there has been a significant upheaval in the Congress.

After two decades of anti-incumbency, the Bharatiya Janata Party pulled off a landslide victory, winning 163 out of 230 seats. The Congress was only able to get 66 seats, as opposed to 114 in 2018, which had enabled them to form the state government.

“We will analyze the loopholes and why we were not able to make the voters understand our point. We will hold discussions with all, be it a winning or losing candidate,” Nath averred post poll results.

After a brief tenure of 15 months as chief minister, Nath’s cabinet was reduced to a minority in the assembly due to a mutiny by 23 MLAs. He won this election from Chhindwara with a margin of more than thirty-five thousand votes.

Jitendra, also known as Jitu Patwari, who was a minister in Nath’s cabinet, will succeed him. Although he had defeated Rau in 2018, he was defeated this time by over 35,000 votes.
