The way that The Crown portrayed Kate Middleton’s mother, Carole Middleton, in the sixth season of the well-liked Netflix royal drama has drawn criticism from Kate’s uncle, Gary Goldsmith. On the Daily Mail podcast, Gary Goldsmith voiced his displeasure, saying he stopped watching the show because it was becoming “ridiculous and fantastical,” especially with the way Carole was portrayed as a manipulating seeking to join the royal family.

He stated to Daily Mail, “Carole isn’t that manipulative evil person — coming up with ways by which she can force her way into the royal family,” Goldsmith added. “I don’t understand why Carole hasn’t taken legal action cause literally it’s that bad.”
Goldsmith, who was thinking back on Kate’s time at St. Andrew’s University, noted her accomplishments but took issue with the show’s emphasis on flimsy things like beauty, saying, “It was all to do with ‘Kate you’ve got to be doing these things, you’ve got to be showing your legs’, and it’s just not my family. It’s not the way Carole operates.”

In response to a question about whether the Middleton family has seen The Crown, Goldsmith said the show was too sophisticated for them. Carole is shown as a cunning character who orchestrates Kate and Prince William’s connection in the episode named Alma Mater.
When Carole pressurized Kate Middleton to attract Prince William’s interest

This portrayal of Carole as intent on turning Kate into the heir apparent to the British monarchy marks a dramatic shift in Goldsmith’s understanding of his family. “You don’t know him. What if William isn’t right for me? What about what I want?” she added, “Once you had the idea fixed in your head you never stopped.”
