May 2023 Watchlist, from crime thriller to period dramas, this month has it all

Films and TV shows are brimming throughout this month. With a wide variety of films slated for release in May, audiences are anticipating an entertaining month on both small and large screens. From family drama to thriller and action, this month is packed with goodness and entertainment suiting the taste of all.

1. Queen Charlotte: Bridgerton Story
Watch on: Netflix (May 4)

The prequel primarily tells the tale of Queen Charlotte, who is portrayed by Golda Rosheuvel. In Bridgerton, Queen Charlotte appears as a cunning woman who is curious about every rumour going on in her realm. The series will showcase Queen Charlotte’s rise to power and the events leading up to her nuptials to King George. The young Charlotte will be played by actress India Ria Amarteifio. Ruth Gemmell plays Lady Violet Bridgerton, while actor Adjoa Andoh reprises her roles as Lady Agatha Danbury. Young King George will be played by Corey Mylchreest.

Saas, Bahu aur Flamingo

Saas Bahu Aur Flamingo

A fascinating cast including Dimple Kapadia, Radhika Madan, Angira Dhar, and Isha Talwar can be seen in Homi Adajania’s Saas Bahu aur Flamingo. The grandmother Savitri (played by Kapadia), her daughters-in-law Bijli and Kajal, and her daughter Shanta are central to the plot of the television show. Savitri is the owner of Rani Cooperative, a business that appears to trade in textiles but actually manufactures drugs under the guise of textiles.

Queen Cleopatra
Watch on: Netflix (May 10)

Craig Russell, Adele James, and Jada Pinkett Smith are among the ensemble of the forthcoming Netflix documentary Queen Cleopatra. According to the official synopsis, “As Egypt’s last pharaoh, Cleopatra fights to protect her throne, family and legacy in this docudrama featuring reenactments and expert interviews.” Before it ever premiered, the show caused a stir by portraying Cleopatra as a black lady.

Dahaad
Watch on: Prime Video (May 12)

Sonakshi Sinha, Vijay Varma

Sonakshi Sinha, Vijay Varma, Gulshan Devaiah, and Sohum Shah will appear in the eight-part criminal drama Dahaad, which will debut on Prime Video on May 12. In the show, which is co-directed by Reema Kagti and Ruchika Oberoi, Sinha plays a police officer named Anjali Bhaati who is attempting to investigate the murder of 27 women.

Taj Season 2
Watch on: ZEE5 (May 12)

Last month, ZEE5 revealed the title of the upcoming season of the historical drama Taj: Divided By Blood as Taj: Reign of Revenge. After spending 15 years in exile and losing his beloved Anarkali, Salim is determined to exact revenge on the Mughal empire. Aashim Gulati will play Prince Salim, Dharmendra will play Shaikh Salim Chisti, while Naseeruddin Shah will return as King Akbar in the season. Meherunnisa (Noor Jahaan), played by actor Sauraseni Maitra, Princes Khusrav and Khurram, played by actors Jiansh Agarwal and Mitansh Lulla. The first episode will be released on May 12 and new episodes will release every Friday.

High Desert
Watch on: Apple TV Plus (May 17)

Patricia Arquette, Matt Dillon, Christine Taylor, Weruche Opia, Brad Garrett, Bernadette Peters, Rupert Friend, and Keir O’Donnell will star in the eight-episode dark comedy series. The Jay Roach directorial unleashed the show’s synopsis, “High Desert follows Peggy (Arquette), an on-again-off-again addict who decides to make a new start after the death of her beloved mother, with whom she lived in the small desert town of Yucca Valley, California, and makes a life-changing decision to become a private investigator.”

AntMan And The Wasp Quantumania

Ant Man

With the release of the latest Ant-Man movie, Ant-Man and the Wasp Quantumania, the Marvel Cinematic Universe’s fifth phase got underway. When it was released in theatres in February of this year, it was met with mixed reviews. Now you can watch the movie online for free. It stars Paul Rudd, Evangeline Lilly, Michael Douglas, Michelle Pfeiffer, and Kathryn Newton.

Director Yashowardhan Mishra’s comedy-drama Kathal has Sanya Malhotra in the pivotal character of a police officer. The movie’s plot, which takes place in a made-up town called Moba, is alleged to have been influenced by actual events. Mahima, a character played by Malhotra, has been tasked with solving the mystery of the missing jackfruits. Rajpal Yadav, Vijay Raaz, Anant Joshi, Neha Saraf, Govind Pandey, and Shashi Ranjan are also featured in the movie.

Platonic

For the upcoming comedy series Platonic on Apple TV+, actors Rose Byrne and Seth Rogen have teamed up together. The two actors portray ex-best buddies “who reconnect after a long rift.” The show also features Luke Macfarlane, Tre Hale, Andrew Lopez, Carla Gallo, and Seth Rogen in addition to Byrne and Rogen.

The action comedy series, according to the streamer, centres on a CIA operative who discovers a family secret right before retiring. He is compelled to return to work for the final time. The eight-episode series’ official synopsis states that “When a father and daughter discover they both secretly work for the CIA, an already dicey undercover mission turns into a dysfunctional family affair.” The show also stars Monica Barbaro, Jay Baruchel, and Fortune Feimster.
