    Indian cinema is currently celebrating the 66th National Film Awards ceremony which took place in 2019 to honor the best films of 2018.

    National Film Awards is currently taking place at the Vigyan Bhavan in New Delhi. On August 9 it was announced by jury heads Rahul Rawail, AS Kanal and Utpal Bhorpujari that 66th National Film Award will take place in New Delhi. Venkaiah Naidu who is the vice president is giving away the awards to the winners at the prestigious award ceremony. The show is being hosted by Sonali Kulkarni and Divya Dutta in the 66th National Film Awards. The list of 400 films was submitted in the feature film category and 256 films were submitted in the non-feature category. Among those honored at the event are Bollywood actors Vicky Kaushal, Ayushmann Khurana Akshay KumarAkshay and Vicky shared a hug when they arrived at the Vigyan Bhawan for the ceremony.

    The Best Actor award is being shared by Ayushmann Khurrana and Vicky Kaushal, for Andhadhun and Badhaai Ho. Keerthy Suresh won the Best Actress award for her performance in Mahanati. The Best Feature Film Award went to Gujarati film Hellaro. Meanwhile, superstar Amitabh Bachchan tweeted that he won’t be attending the National Awards ceremony to collect the prestigious Dadsaheb Phalke Award this year due to ill-health. Speaking about his film Uri: The Surgical Strike, Vicky Kaushal earlier said at the red carpet, “At the end of the day, it was his vision that we were trying to follow. Uri was a decision taken from my gut feeling.”

    Every year the winners of the awards are announced in April but this year the ministry announced that the National Film Awards will be declared after the Lok Sabha elections. Here is the award list announced by National Film Awards 2019. Award for the best supporting actor was Marathi actor Swanand Kirkire (Chumbak), and the best-supporting actress went to Surekha Sikri (Badhaai Ho). Sanjay Leela Bhansali bagged the award for best music direction for his work on Padmaavat. Akshay Kumar-starrer Padman which addressed the subject of menstrual hygiene in India bagged the award for the best film on social issues. Arijit Singh has bagged the award for best male playback singer for the rendition of ‘Binte Dil’ in Padmaavat.
