Newly released movies, OTT shows to binge watch this week

On the big screen, the second-to-last week of August saw some excellent releases, but there was also talk about the OTT releases. Baki Hanma returned to Netflix for part 2 of season 2, while Disney+ Hotstar saw the largest release of the eagerly anticipated Star Wars spinoff Ahsoka.

The biggest films to watch this weekend are listed below.

Ahsoka (Disney+ Hotstar)

Ahsoka was Anakin Skywalker’s apprentice Jedi and one of the most well-known due to her survival during the Order 66 purge. The much anticipated series follows Ahsoka Tano, a renowned former Jedi Knight, as she starts looking into a potential threat to a galaxy in need of protection following the collapse of the Galactic Empire.

Invasion S2 (Apple TV+)


The series explores how mankind recovered after an alien invasion by using the perspectives of five people who live all across the planet.

Baki Hanma S2/P2 (Netflix)


The anime series centres on Baki Hanma, who aspires to match his famous father The Orge, the strongest being on Earth and a famed fighter, in combat prowess. Although Baki has already shown to have extraordinary strength and fighting skills, he still has a long way to go before reaching his father’s status.

Lighthouse (Netflix)


Masayasu Wakabayashi, a comedian, and Gen Hoshino, an actor and singer, are featured in the Japanese Netflix series in a casual conversation that reveals their fears and insecurities. As stated in the official summary, there are “lots of laughs along the way.”

Jujutsu Kaisen (Netflix)


It centres around a gang of sorcerers who can destroy cursed items and demons and catch them in order to preserve humanity.

Wheel Of Time (Amazon Prime Video)


It is based on a novel with the same name and follows five young peasants whose lives are drastically altered when a strong lady asserts that one of them is the progeny of an old prophesy.

Killer Book Club (Netflix)


The Spanish movie centres on a gang of eight horror-loving buddies who accidentally kill a significant person while playing a Halloween prank. Now that they have been sworn to quiet, a strange writer in a mask threatens them, threatening them with death if they don’t expose their secret.
