Smriti Mandhana: First Indian Woman Cricketer To Score Back-to-back Centuries In ODI Cricket

India has got a significant figure in women’s cricket. We are talking about Smriti Mandhana who achieved something no Indian woman had done before. She scored two consecutive centuries in One Day International (ODI) matches, marking an important milestone in her career.

Smriti Mandhana

Smriti Mandhana once said that while growing up, I often saw my brother and uncles completely absorbed in cricket, especially during the IPL or World Cup. It was exciting and fun to watch them so passionately, but I always wondered: where were the women in this picture? The women in my family enjoyed sports too, but not with the same intensity as the men. Even today, most people can easily name several male cricketers, but they struggle to name even a few female cricketers.

There is no doubt that Smriti Mandhana is a role model who has stood up against the unequal treatment of women in sports. Women’s achievements in sports are often overlooked, but it’s time to change that. From an early age, Smriti was surrounded by sports, watching her dad play cricket and her brother compete in under-16 tournaments. This environment fueled her passion and led her to pursue a career in a male-dominated field.

Mandhana’s dedication and talent have made her a standout cricketer. Recently, she became the first Indian woman to hit consecutive ODI centuries, scoring 136 runs in 120 balls. Her incredible performance not only led her team to victory but also made the whole country proud. She proves that women can excel in sports while balancing other aspects of their lives. As a successful cricketer, businesswoman, and brand endorser, she encourages young girls to follow their sports dreams.

Undoubtedly Smriti Mandhana’s journey, along with other women’s, proves that there are possibilities for young girls who aspire to be athletes. By celebrating such trailblazers, we can ensure future generations see more women in sports and be inspired to make their marks.
