Saroj Khan has choreographed over 2000 songs . Legendary actresses like Madhuri Dixit, Sridevi considered her as their dance guru. Saroj Khan’s real name was Nirmala Nagpal. Saroj’s father’s name was Kishanchand Saddhu Singh and mother’s name was Noni Saddhu Singh. After partition, Saroj Khan’s family migrated to India from Pakistan. Saroj started working in films as a child artist at just 3 years. Her first film was Nazarana in which she played the role of a girl named Shyama. In the 50s, Saroj started working as a background dancer. She got trained from choreographer B.Sohanlal. Saroj joined the film Geeta Mera Naam, released in 1974, as an independent choreographer, through her work she gained recognition after a long time. Saroj Khan’s main films were Mr. India, Nagina, Chandni, Tezaab, Thanedar,through which she became famous.
Saroj got married at the age of 13 years with his trainer Sohal lal. She revealed that her religion is Islam and she excepted it with her free will. In an interview with a TV channel, Saroj Khan had said that ‘I had converted to Islam on my own free will. At that time many people asked me if there was any pressure on me but it was not so. I get inspired by the religion of Islam. Saroj Khan’s first son Raju Khan was born in 1963 and later on Saroj gave birth to another child in 1965 but died 8 months later After the birth of the children, Sohanlal refused to give them his name. After this the distance came between the two and Saroj raised both children alone.
Saroj khan turned 69 today .She is the lady behind the popular songs like “Ek do Teen” ,”Dola Re” “Hawa Hawai” and many more She made the world grooved on her dance moves and also started to teach dance to the nation.Many popular stars like Alia bhatt,Varun Dhawan,Kangana Ranaut, take her as their dance Guru.
