A lethal competition was witnessed throughout Day 1 as the hosts were seen dominating the first half of the classical episode of Day 1, while towards the day-end the visitors seem to make a successful comeback.

Kiwis opted to bat first as the rain was also predicted for the following days and Lords has always been a positive choice to bat first but tables turned down as the hosts which were led by a new-era duo of Ben Stokes and Brendon Mccullum, had different plans.

The openers Tom Latham and Will Young did not stay long to show any definitive performance as the fans roared to cheer up the king of pace and swing “ James Anderson”.

Jimmy made a phenomenal comeback to the red-ball cricket as the feelings and bidding both were high for the pace gunner. Jimmy took 4 successive wickets and probably had one of the best spells of his bowling career. Jimmy’s spell was 16-6-66-4

Matty Potts had a dream debut today as he started by taking the wicket of top-performing batsman Kane Williamson. Matty Potts didn’t stop but geared up more to take 4 good wickets at the iconic and historical stadium of Lords.

Broad and skipper Stokes were able to take 1 wicket each and the four pacers all together sent Kiwis back to the pavilion at just 132 runs (40 overs).

Striking out early the hosts were allowed to bat on Day 1 itself where they couldn’t show much of their skills as the visitors were too in the mood of plucking revenge for their side.

Though a positive opening partnership was initiated, Kyle Jamieson gave the first breakthrough to the Kiwis, which was certainly a start of their dominating session as the visitors kept on taking 7 wickets till stumps was announced.

A day of highs and lows with honours even ⚖

Currently, Stuart Broad and James Anderson are left to get out. Along with them, Matt Parkinson will be seen in the XI as Jack Leach was given a concussion substitute after getting an injury in the morning.

Jack Leach has symptoms of concussion following his head injury whilst fielding.

As per concussion guidelines, he has been withdrawn from this Test.

We will confirm a concussion replacement in due course.
