Interesting Discovery Of Egyptian Mummy Who Turned Out To Be Pregnant

What if you come to know about the first-ever pregnant mummy. One such discovery made by the scientist is something you should need to know.

Pregnant Mummy

As per the research by the Polish Academy of Sciences. All the ancient Egyptian mummies were scanned in local museums. After which an interesting discovery came up. It was when a group of Polish scientists found one of the Egyptian mummy which was previously believed to be a man, turned out to be a 20-year-old woman who was embalmed with a fetus inside.

She was a woman in late pregnancy. This appears to be the only known example of an embalmed, pregnant Egyptian mummy so far. The mummy, which has been in the National Museum in Warsaw, Poland since 1917, was found in the 1800s in the Royal Tombs of Thebes.

She was embalmed about 2 thousand years ago when Cleopatra reigned. The pregnant mummy was brought to Warsaw back in 1826. The inscription on her coffin indicated that this was a male religious figure, a priest named Khor-Dehuti. Until recently, a preliminary examination of the mummy indicated that it could be a woman. The authors have called it “Mysterious Lady of the National Museum in Warsaw” because there’s still much that’s unknown about her. For example the cause of her death and many other things related to this mummy. They further said, “Her mummy represents a fine example of ancient Egyptian embalming skills, thus suggesting her high social standing,” as she was also buried with a “rich set” of amulets, which was revealed during the study.

For a new study, scientists decided to scan the body and were surprised to find the fact that a woman who was lying in the coffin was in her seventh month of pregnancy. According to scientists, this is the only known case of a well-preserved pregnant Egyptian mummy. They determined that the woman was between 20 and 30 years old. And the size of the fetal skull suggests that it was somewhere between 26-28 weeks of gestation. Scientists say the discovery provides new opportunities to investigate pregnancy and the ancient practices associated with it.
