According to a number of Pakistani internet users, former prime minister Nawaz Sharif recently spoke at a rally in the district of Nankana Sahib, in the Punjab province, while sporting a Gucci hat that cost more than one lakh Pakistani Rupees (PKR).
Not everyone found the rally’s most notable aspect to be Nawaz’s extravagantly priced hat; others drew attention to the cap’s stripes, which matched the color of Imran Khan’s Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) party flag.

The Gucci hat that Nawaz was wearing sparked uproar since Pakistan is experiencing a severe economic crisis due to the skyrocketing costs of necessities like food, petrol, and electricity.
A World Bank research states that a number of internal and foreign economic shocks, along with massive accumulated economic imbalances caused by the delayed removal of accommodating policies, brought Pakistan’s robust post-pandemic recovery to a grinding halt in FY23.
Nawaz was allegedly approached by a Pakistani woman in 2023 when he was shopping in London’s upscale Harrods department store.

Should Nawaz’s party win an election, it pledged to give the people “cheap and increased electricity” along with “speedy development.” A Dawn article stated that a 20–30% decrease in power bills was another of the manifesto’s promises.
