Ace filmmaker Basu Chatterjee said good bye this this world forever. The film industry is in grief, as it has lost one of the most competent and classic filmmaker.
The year 2020 has turned out to be a dark phase for the film industry. The industry is experiencing many setbacks one after the other. After Irrfan Khan, Rishi Kapoor, Wajid Khan, now veteran director Basu Chatterjee also left the world. He was known for directing films such as Piya Ka Ghar, Rajnigandha, Choti Si Baat, Chitchor, Swami, Baton Baton Mein. The news of Basu’s demise has raged on social media. Everyone from the leader to the actor is quite shocked. All are expressing their grief on this. He was suffering from age-related illness and died at 90. Filmmaker Basu died in his peaceful sleep at his Santacruz residence in the morning. According to the information gathered his last rites will be performed later this afternoon at the Santacruz crematorium.
Confirming the news on its official Twitter handle, The Indian Film & TV Directors’ Association said “IFTDA mourns the demise of Legendary Filmmaker Basu Chatterjee. A Master of Humour who delved into social and moral issues through his films. We pray to the almighty to bless his noble soul & give courage to his family to bear the irreplaceable loss.”
Madhur Bhandarkar was among the first ones to express their grief over the tragic news. He also tweeted, ‘Sad to hear the news of the death of Veteran filmmaker Basu Chatterjee. He will always be remembered for his light-hearted comedies and simple films.
Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee also paid homage to Basu Chatterjee through social media. She wrote, ‘Saddened by the passing away of legendary film director and screenwriter Basu Chatterjee. He gave us many good works like ‘Chote Si Baat’, ‘Chitchor’, ‘Rajnigandha’, ‘Byomkesh Bakshi’, ‘Rajni’. My condolences to his family, friends, fans and the entire film fraternity.
