Among many stereotypes, one is you need to be slim to be an actress. But there are some actresses who love the way they are. One of them is Vidya Balan. She is not ashamed of being fat. She is not slim and trim, but talented, fat and fabulous. The actress never shies away to talk openly about her opinions. She charming yet confident and that’s what makes her a fine actress.
The actress has broken norms time and time again with her choice of roles and looks. Recently while in an interview, she spoke about the challenges of weight problems that she has faced over the years. The actress said that because of people she starved herself many times at some point and later realized there’s no point in living like how people want you to live. The actress said, “When people tell me why don’t you start exercising, I want to say f**k you!”
She revealed that she had hormonal problems since childhood. And when people used to ask her that she got a pretty face but need to get slim, she used to lose her temper as those people didn’t have idea that how much she was struggling and what challenges she have been facing in her life.
She said that even at her thinnest, she felt fat.
“Weight loss, weight gain, weight loss, weight gain was my pattern for as long as I can remember. Do you know that my hormonal problem has made it impossible for me to lose weight for years in between? Not just that, there was a period in between when the more I’d work out, the more I’d put on.”
She went on to say,
“People would insinuate that you must be eating unhealthy or that you’re lazy. And these things stick with you. It would anger me no end. I kept wanting people to stop judging me. But over time, I realised that people judge you/your body only if you do. If you seek validation from others, you’ll always fall short. So, the answer lies in loving and accepting yourself. That of course is easier said than done. It’s work in progress and a lifelong endeavour.”
