In Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness, we see the Illuminati, and online there were plenty of people wondering why Tony Stark aka Iron Man wasn’t part of that team. There’s a good reason why he’s missing.
Apart from the fact that it was probably difficult to get Robert Downey Jr. Returning the role, producer Richie Palmer tells Empire Magazine that there is a reason Tony Stark is missing as a member of the Illuminati in Earth-838.
“This is a world where Ultron seems to work the way Tony Stark intended it to in Age of Ultron, with ‘armor all over the world.’ Tony was trying to retire the Avengers in Age of Ultron,” Palmer said.
Ultron worked the way Tony Stark wanted
“It’s a world where Tony succeeded Ultron, and it worked, and he said, ‘Hey, whoever wants to retire and go home can do that,’ ” the producer said. “And then the Illuminati showed up and ran things behind the scenes. But I think it’s a better world for whatever reason.”
“In that world, Wanda could live the life she deserved. We as an audience don’t know who the father of those children is in this universe,” Palmer added.
The film is now on Disney+.
